I looked forward to it.
It seems ridiculous now
from the bottom of the pit
but then I was.
There were pretty words that
painted pictures
And my hands ached to
impress
and I tried.
I really really tried.
It's hard to perform
for an empty theatre.
The seats they glare
and the sound of applause
is off the menu, they're
serving low self esteem today.
And I know
I know you didn't dig this pit.
You didn't push me in.
But I was on the edge
when your voice was red,
your disappointment loud
and your disapproval simmered.
I dug the pit
I flinched
I fell.
The rope ladder
was right beside you though.
