I have not known love
the way chick flicks end
but my lovely
lovely girls
wine soaked and sharp tongued
on teary phone calls
and lolling on grass lawns
or under benches in class when
convention and everyone else is
too loud
and dragging blankets over a
careless, selfish shiver
or looped up on cough syrup
or boy crazed foolishly texted up

as the hum of
my fan

the heat of the summer

just so the blades of
my fan
can keep singing
that;
the hum that fills up
my silence;
